

The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran has described the official relationship with the pacesetter’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Teaching Service Commission(TESCOM) as cordial, mutual and effective.

Adeniran disclosed this during a media parley in Ibadan, which centres on journey so far and attainment of notable achievements.

He said that the cordial and mutual relationship existing among the trio of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, SUBEB and TESCOM had no doubt necessitated the attainment of feats since assumption of office.
On enumeration of achievements, Nureni revealed that SUBEB under his current leadership had since assumption of office dated 26th June, 2019 embarked on completion of some of ongoing projects left by the last administration and incessant tours to public schools across the thirty three(33) Local Governments in the state.
He added that concerted efforts had led to construction of notable model schools when effective teaching, students’ better performances and school monitoring are not taking with levity hands.

Adeniran said that special periods had been created for reading, writing and conducive learning environment so as to attain teachers’ delivery and students’ assimilation of the teachings.
He equally revealed that the introduction of free education across public schools in the state and infrastructures being put in place have been enhancing withdrawal of children from the streets to classes.
Stressing that the ingenuity and innovation of UBEB and UBEC had also enhanced the training of teachers and effective engagement in capacity building in order to attain the appellation of pacesetter in education.
Adeniran said though Covid-19 had done more harms than good to education, saying the board’s proactiveness to challenges enabled it to think technologically with engagement of pupils in E-Learning with involvement of notable visual and audible broadcasting stations in the state.
While fielding questions from journalists, Adeniran explained that it was a law that established SUBEB with its priorities in teachers’ recruitment, pupils’ placement and infrastructures across the public primary schools.
Stressing that its power needed to be extended to Junior Secondary Schools but it is a different case in Oyo State as Ministry of Education and TESCOM has taken it over.
He said there were no sentiments nor controversies among the three as holistic approach to issues was instrumental to attained achievements.
On issue of recruitment, he said that he had knowledge that TESCOM is recruiting, SUBEB’s recruitment exercise would be done as soon as the former is through.
