JUST IN: Federal Government Declares TOMORROW Public Holiday In Honour Of Late President Muhammadu Buhari

In a poignant tribute to the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the Federal Government has announced Tuesday 15th, 2025, as a public holiday to honour his memory. This declaration follows the seven-day national mourning period initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscoring the significant impact of President Buhari’s leadership on the nation.

The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. According to the statement, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, following President Tinubu’s approval. The holiday is intended to pay tribute to President Buhari’s lifetime of service, his dedication to national unity, and his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said. He urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion in line with his vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

The Federal Government also reiterated that national flags across the country and at Nigerian missions abroad will continue to fly at half-mast for the duration of the mourning period, which began on Sunday, July 13. This symbolic gesture serves as a reminder of the respect and admiration Nigerians have for the late president’s legacy.

The government extended its condolences to the family of the late president, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul. As the nation comes together to pay its respects, this public holiday will undoubtedly be a moment for reflection, solidarity, and celebration of a life dedicated to public service.
