The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Branch, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin in his office to explore opportunities for legislative collaboration and legal reforms in the state.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of the NBA Ibadan Branch, Barr. Ibrahim Lawal, was received by the Speaker, and member representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon. Akintunde Olajide.

In his remarks, Barr. Lawal commended the 10th Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin for its progressive and people-oriented legislative agenda.

He emphasized the readiness of the Bar to partner with the Assembly in reviewing existing laws, proposing amendments, and contributing to the drafting of new, effective legislations that will further enhance governance and the rule of law in Oyo State.

“This visit is about synergy. The legal profession has a duty not only to advocate in court but to also contribute to legislative development. We believe a partnership with the Assembly will help us collectively improve the legal framework of the state,” Barr. Lawal stated.

He acknowledged the expertise of the Bar in legal drafting and policy input, and assured the delegation that the House would constitute a liaison committee to interface regularly with the NBA on relevant legal issues and reforms.

“Our doors are open to partnerships that strengthen our legislative processes. The House will set up a committee to work with your branch, particularly on the review of bills, law reforms, and effective implementation of laws passed.”the Speaker said.

He further emphasized the importance of post-legislative scrutiny to assess the impact and effectiveness of laws passed by the Assembly, and encouraged the NBA to play a key role in that effort.

Institutional synergy is pivotal and crucial. We are ready to work with the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan branch. I am confident that the collaboration will yield reforms that will further enhance justice delivery and good governance in Oyo State.”
