In a significant development, the Olubadan-in-Council has officially nominated Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. This nomination was made during a meeting held at the Oke-Aremo palace of the Olubadan, marking a crucial step in the transition process.

The nomination was moved by the Balogun Olubadan, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, and seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole, in a demonstration of unity and consensus among the council members. Notably, all members of the Olubadan-in-Council have signed off on Ladoja’s nomination, underscoring the broad support he enjoys. The council will now forward Ladoja’s name to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for official ratification and the scheduling of the coronation ceremony, where the Staff and Certificate of Office will be presented.

This development comes after the completion of the 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, after a reign of one year. Olakulehin’s tenure followed that of Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The transition process has been conducted with the utmost respect for tradition and protocol, reflecting the deep cultural heritage of Ibadanland.

The nomination of Senator Ladoja is seen as a significant moment for Ibadanland, given his experience in governance and leadership. His tenure as Governor of Oyo State has endowed him with a deep understanding of the region’s needs and challenges, which could potentially influence his decisions as the Olubadan. The Olubadan-in-Council’s decision is expected to bring stability and progress to the Ibadan kingdom, leveraging Ladoja’s vast experience.

As the process moves forward, all eyes will be on Governor Seyi Makinde for the official ratification of Senator Ladoja’s nomination. Upon ratification, preparations will commence for the coronation ceremony, an event that will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Ibadanland under the leadership of the 44th Olubadan. The ceremony will not only be a celebration of tradition but also a symbol of unity and continuity for the kingdom.
