The indomitable spirit of Nigeria flows through every facet of our land. It is a reality of a people whose resilience, strength, and brilliance stand out on local and global stages. Nigerians are a force of nature, we rise above adversity with an unyielding determination that reveals itself in diverse ways; be it in commerce, education, or the arts. I have witnessed this tenacity first hands in multiple scenarios. This beautiful and outstanding place is shaped by the trials we endure and finds its most dynamic showcase in the remarkable achievements of our athletes, who embody excellence with every stride and shot.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria for securing their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, a feat that cements their revered status and dominance in international women’s football. This triumph, achieved with a stunning comeback against Morocco (the host nation), is a glowing affirmation of their skill, courage, and unrelenting spirit. For the global football community, this victory reaffirms Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse and showcases the true essence of our national character; resilience, unity, and brilliance. What makes this even more inspiring is that these are women, shattering stereotypes and proving they are capable of just anything, inspiring a generation to dream without limits and reinforcing the pride we feel in their remarkable journey.

Equally, I salute the D’Tigress, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, for clinching their fifth consecutive AfroBasketball Tournament title, a remarkable achievement that lifts our spirits skyward. This victory, secured despite a very short training time before the tournament, speaks volumes about their perseverance and the unshakeable Nigerian resolve. They faced their opponents with a tenacity that left no doubt about what it means to be Nigerian — undaunted by obstacles, driven by purpose, and crowned with success. For all of us, this is a moment of profound pride, a reminder that our potential knows no bounds and a celebration of the grit that defines our people on the world stage.
Of course, these accomplishments have been beautifully recognised by the presidency, state governors, and corporate bodies, who have showered the teams with rewards and honours, a fitting tribute to their excellence. Yet, beyond these accolades, we must pause to reflect on the deeper significance: no national team in their respective categories has ever achieved such sustained dominance with such finesse, overcoming challenges and hindrances with grace. The Super Falcons’ 10th WAFCON title and the D’Tigress’ seventh (but fifth in a row) AfroBasket title are historic milestones that should not be understated. I greet these champions again and again, and I urge all Nigerians to keep this achievement at the forefront of our celebrations, for it is a legacy that must be cherished and amplified without dilution.

Personally, I am deeply passionate about sports, having really seen how it shapes athletes and elevate the nations/teams they represent. The greatness brought by the Super Falcons and D’Tigress is a living proof of this, and it further fuels my commitment to prioritise sports development across all levels when I become governor of Oyo State. I pledge to give this sector the attention it deserves, build talent and infrastructure, and create opportunities for our youth to thrive. Congratulations once more to the Super Falcons and D’Tigress for making us all proud. May your victories inspire a new era of excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
