In a bold move to reassure party faithful, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi (BASA), a chieftain and governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, has sent a strong message to would-be hijackers of the party’s structure. Amidst circulating rumours of possible defections by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State, BASA has vowed that no individual, regardless of political influence, can hijack the party or impose candidates on its members.
The ADC leader’s statement comes as a response to concerns raised by party executives and members, who fear that sitting governors might attempt to control the party in Oyo State. BASA assured them that the party leadership in Oyo State is strong, united, and committed to safeguarding its independence and grassroots foundation.
“We must see these developments positively,” BASA said. “ADC in Oyo State today is funded by our members; no external money can dictate how our people act. We will not allow anyone to destroy the structure we are building from the grassroots.”
The ADC governorship aspirant emphasized that the party will conduct free and fair primaries, and any aspirant or delegate caught paying for votes or manipulating the process will be barred from the party. She also warned that any executive found complicit will lose their position.
“This cannot happen again in Oyo State,” BASA added. “We have put measures in place to prevent it. Such incidents can only occur if our executives allow them, and I have confidence in the loyalty and integrity of our members.”
ADC members in Oyo State have welcomed BASA’s reassurance, highlighting the party’s growing strength and independence. “That sitting governors are reportedly considering joining ADC shows the party is becoming a major political force,” a member said. “PDP has lost relevance; ADC is now the platform for serious politicians with vision for Nigeria.”

As 2027 approaches, the mood within Oyo State ADC remains one of calm confidence, with leaders focused on preparation and grassroots mobilization rather than speculation. “Our 2027 game will reflect our preparation and integrity,” BASA concluded. “ADC cannot be hijacked, and our members will continue to uphold the party’s values and principles.”
BASA’s statement is seen as a bold move to assert her influence within the party and position herself as a strong contender for the governorship ticket. Her message is clear: the ADC is not for sale, and its members will not be intimidated or manipulated.
The rumoured defection of Governor Makinde and Governor Bala Muhammed has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many speculating on the implications for the 2027 elections. However, BASA’s statement suggests that the ADC is prepared for any eventuality and will not be swayed by external influences.
As the party prepares for its primaries, all eyes are on the ADC to see how it will navigate the challenges ahead. One thing is certain, however: the party’s commitment to its values and principles remains unwavering.
In a related development, the ADC has begun preparations for its national convention, where key decisions on the party’s leadership and strategy will be made. The convention is expected to be a major event, with delegates from across the country converging to chart the party’s course for the future.
The ADC’s growing strength and influence are a testament to its appeal as a viable alternative to the dominant parties in Nigeria. As the country prepares for the 2027 elections, the ADC is poised to play a major role in shaping the nation’s future.
