A prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Hon. Wale Ajani, has resigned from the party, citing uncertainties and lack of internal democracy. In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman, PDP, Ward 6, Ona Ara Local Government, Ajani announced his decision to leave the party, effective January 10, 2026.
Hon. Wale Ajani, a former Director General of Oyo State Liaison, Lagos & Abuja, during Governor Seyi Makinde’s first term, expressed his gratitude to party leaders and members who supported him over the years. He stated that his decision was not taken lightly, but the prevailing circumstances within the party, including factions and caretaker committees, left him with no choice.

The resignation comes as the PDP faces challenges in Oyo State, with recent reports of defections and internal conflicts. In December 2025, the party appointed a Caretaker Committee, led by Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, to oversee its activities in the state.
Hon. Ajani’s departure is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, as he is a respected figure in Oyo State politics. His future plans are unclear, but he hinted at preparing for a higher level of political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP has been facing internal strife, with factions emerging in several states, including Oyo. The party’s national leadership has been working to resolve these conflicts and strengthen its structures.
Hon. Wale Ajani’s resignation is the latest in a series of high-profile exits from the PDP. Earlier, other prominent members, including a chieftain in Atiba Local Government, defected to other parties, citing similar reasons.

As the PDP navigates these challenges, Ajani’s resignation serves as a wake-up call for the party to address its internal issues and restore unity among its members.
