Nigeria’s Super Eagles have secured a spot in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, held in Morocco, after a commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday evening. The three-time African champions dominated the Desert Foxes for most of the first half but failed to capitalize on their chances, with Calvin Bassey’s effort being cleared off the line.
However, the second half saw a different story unfold. Victor Osimhen headed in Bruno Onyemaechi’s cross to open the scoring, and later set up Akor Adams for the second goal, sealing Nigeria’s spot in the semifinals. The victory marks a strong performance by Eric Chelle’s men, who will now face hosts Morocco for a place in the final.

Nigeria’s impressive display was characterized by their determination, quick movements, and strong challenges, which denied Algeria a single scoring chance in the first half. The team’s resilience and clinical finishing in the second half ultimately paid off, securing their place in the semifinals.
