

Ibadan, Oyo State – In a significant development in the traditional leadership landscape of Oyo State, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja Arusa 1, has been appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas. The announcement was made by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde FNSE, at a brief ceremony held at the House of Chiefs, Agodi, Ibadan, yesterday, Thursday, 15th of January, 2026.
Mogaji Olufemi Junaid, Mogaji Jinadu Ile Ganga of Itutaba, Ibadan, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his appointment, expressing confidence that his leadership will catalyze development in Oyo State and enhance the progress of the traditional council. “As Oba Ladoja takes the helm of the Oyo State Council of Obas, we are confident that his leadership will catalyze development in Oyo State and enhance the progress of the traditional council in Oyo State and each local government under its purview,” Mogaji Junaid said.

Mogaji Junaid commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his action, reflecting his adherence to the rule of law and commitment to strengthening traditional institutions. “His Excellency’s governance style, marked by respect for laws and institutions, sets a commendable example,” he added.
The appointment is a testament to Oba Ladoja’s status and the respect he commands within the traditional council and the broader community. It also underscores Governor Makinde’s commitment to rotational leadership and inclusivity among the premier traditional rulers of Oyo State.
The Oyo State House of Assembly had passed an amendment to the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs Law on May 20, 2025, making the chairmanship rotational among the Alaafin of Oyo, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Soun of Ogbomoso. This bill was subsequently passed into law on July 29, 2025.
Oba Ladoja’s chairmanship is a source of pride for Ibadanland and a symbol of the collaborative spirit between traditional leadership and government in driving Oyo State forward.
