Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed his gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba(Sen) Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja ARUSA 1, for their roles in securing his freedom from exile. Chief Sunday Igboho’s appreciation comes as he passes a vote of confidence on President Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the Southwest region.

During a thank-you visit to Oba Ladoja’s palace in Ibadan, Chief Sunday Igboho emphasized the need for unity among residents of the Southwest region to tackle insecurity and ensure the development of Yorubaland. He acknowledged the traditional ruler’s intervention, which led to his removal from the Federal Government’s wanted list.

Chief Sunday Igboho’s return to Nigeria marks a significant development, following years of exile and allegations of stockpiling arms and ammunition by the previous administration. The Yoruba activist credited President Tinubu for heeding the Olubadan’s intervention, saying, “Baba Ladoja called me around 10:03 on Friday, saying he was with President Tinubu on my behalf, and I should leave exile and return to Nigeria to unite with my family in peace”.

Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, a Yoruba nation activist, was involved in a previous incident during the Buhari administration. In July 2021, his Ibadan residence was raided by a combined team of the Department of State Security (DSS) and Nigerian Army personnel. The raid resulted in the deaths of three of his aides, and 13 others were arrested.
The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba(Sen) Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja ARUSA 1, in receiving Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), stressed the importance of dialogue and patience in resolving disputes, urging all parties to prioritize peace and avoid actions that could threaten harmony in Yorubaland and Nigeria. Oba Ladoja described traditional rulers as custodians of peace, responsible for intervening in times of tension.

Chief Sunday Igboho’s freedom has brought relief to many Yoruba people worldwide, with Chief Sunday Igboho expressing gratitude to the Olubadan of Ibadan for his fatherly intervention. The monarch also offered prayers for Igboho and his family, wishing them good health, wisdom, and peace of mind.

The development has sparked reactions, with some seeing it as a boost to President Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity in Nigeria. The Yoruba Self-Determination Movement has urged the Federal Government to remove Igboho’s name from the wanted list as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in the Southwest.
Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho’s return and appreciation for President Tinubu’s efforts signal a new chapter in his activism, focusing on promoting peace and stability in Yorubaland. As he reintegrates into Nigerian society, his actions are expected to contribute to the region’s development and security.
