The Oyo State government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering partnerships that drive economic growth and development. This is evident in the recent commendation by Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to the Governor on Agribusiness and International Cooperation and Development and Director General OYSADA, of celebrated Nigerian filmmaker and CEO of KAP Film Village, Kunle Afolayan, for his thoughtful visit and shared vision for collaboration.
During their engagement at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Dr. Akande and Afolayan explored opportunities for synergy between Oyo State’s agribusiness sector and the creative economy. The meeting was timely and strategic, especially as Oyo State continues to position itself as a leading destination for agribusiness, tourism, and cultural investment.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of sustainable economic development across Africa, and Oyo State is deliberately integrating innovation, youth participation, and private sector partnerships to unlock its full potential,” Dr. Akande stated. He noted that Ibadan’s historic and intellectual relevance makes such engagements critical for shaping policies and investments that deliver real impact.
The intersection between tourism, culture, and agriculture presents enormous opportunities for job creation, rural development, and global visibility. Dr. Debo Akande commended Afolayan’s visionary leadership in building creative infrastructure that promotes Nigerian culture while stimulating local economies.

“Oyo State, under the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, remains open to meaningful collaborations with visionary Nigerians like Kunle Afolayan whose work aligns with the state’s economic transformation agenda,” Dr. Akande added.
The Executive Adviser expressed confidence that partnerships driven by shared values, innovation, and commitment will accelerate Oyo State’s journey toward sustainable prosperity and inclusive growth. Afolayan’s KAP Film Village is a testament to the power of creative industries in driving economic development and promoting cultural heritage.
The facility has hosted numerous film productions and cultural events, showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity to the world. Dr. Debo Akande’s commendation of Afolayan’s visionary leadership reflects the Makinde administration’s commitment to fostering partnerships that drive economic growth and development.
The Oyo State government has been actively promoting agribusiness and tourism as key sectors for economic development, and the collaboration with Afolayan is expected to yield positive results. As Oyo State continues to position itself as a hub for agribusiness and cultural tourism, the partnership between Dr. Akande and Afolayan is expected to serve as a model for future collaborations between government and private sector stakeholders.
The visit has further cemented the relationship between Oyo State and the creative industry, paving the way for more collaborations and investments in the sector. With its rich cultural heritage and strategic location, Oyo State is poised to become a leading destination for tourism and agribusiness in Nigeria.
