A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has described the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, as a monumental loss to the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.

Oba Olakulehin reportedly died in the early hours of Monday, barely one year after he ascended the throne as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Oseni, who chairs the House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the monarch’s transition marked the end of a remarkable era of dignity, peace, and royal wisdom.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, on Monday, the lawmaker said the late monarch embodied humility and leadership, adding that his calm disposition and commitment to the unity of Ibadanland stood him out.

“Kabiyesi was more than a traditional ruler. He was a moral compass, a custodian of values, and a unifying figure whose presence gave strength to both the palace and the people,” Oseni said.

He added, “Ibadanland has lost a royal light. Oyo State has lost a father. Nigeria has lost a treasure. Baba’s reign may have been short, but his impact will outlive his years on the throne.”

The APC chieftain also extended condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the Oyo State Government, and the entire Yoruba traditional institution, urging them to uphold the legacy of the late monarch.

Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne in July 2024 following the demise of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
