The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has declared that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, will not clinch the presidential ticket of the Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Bwala asserted that no politician in Nigeria currently has the capacity to unseat President Tinubu.

He maintained that Obi — who contested on the LP platform in 2023 and came second with 6,101,533 votes behind Tinubu’s 8,794,726 — would not only fail to secure a party ticket but might also be sidelined as a potential running mate.
“I have seen the political climate in Nigeria today, and I will speak to facts, not conjectures. There’s not a single politician who has the capacity to knock off President Bola Tinubu on all fronts,” Bwala said.

With the 2027 polls less than two years away, political realignments have intensified, with opposition heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Senate President David Mark reportedly strategising to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some groups have also called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the race, though he has not declared his intentions.
Bwala noted that Jonathan had gained significant international recognition since leaving office in 2015, but maintained that Tinubu’s political reach across both the northern and southern regions gives him a decisive advantage.
Bwala said, “Some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan to come into politics so they can destroy the reputation he has been building after he left government by becoming an international figure globally.
“The elements that are going to him in the North, asking him to come and run, were they not the ones that chased him away? What hope does he have that this time round, they are calling him because they mean well for him?”
