The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his commitment to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while simultaneously challenging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on his readiness to dictate the party’s affairs in Oyo State. Makinde made this statement at the commissioning of the new PDP Secretariat building in Oke Ado, Ibadan, emphasizing that the party’s era of vagabondage since 2015 has expired.
The governor appealed for forgiveness from party members for collaborating with some of the party’s wayward elements in 2023, stating that he has returned to the party with renewed vigor and dedication. Highlighting his achievements in the party since 2019, Makinde assured that his leadership will continue to reward hard work, dedication, and commitment, citing the construction of the PDP Southwest and State Party Secretariat as testament to his administration’s commitment to democratic progress.
Makinde also expressed his confidence in the nation’s judiciary, asserting that truth will ultimately prevail in the party. He praised the unity among party members, emphasizing that this solidarity is crucial for the party’s success.
In their remarks, various party stalwarts, including the Oyo State PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu, and the wife of former governor of Oyo State, Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja, commended Makinde’s beatitude and foresight, reaffirming their commitment to the party’s success.
The PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, described the new building as a legacy, urging party members to remain resolute, focused, and united despite oppositional challenges. The event was attended by party leaders from across the South West and Nigeria, as well as members of the National and State Assemblies.
The commissioning of the new PDP Secretariat building marks a significant milestone in the party’s history, symbolizing its commitment to democratic governance and progress in Oyo State. As the party looks towards the 2027 elections, Makinde’s leadership and vision are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping its trajectory.
