A prominent gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has expressed deep concern over the Senate’s recent rejection of electronic transmission of results from the electoral act. In a strongly-worded statement, Amb. Oguntoyinbo described the move as a deliberate attempt to rig the 2027 general elections and take Nigeria backward.
The PDP chieftain warned that the removal of electronic transmission of results would open doors for electoral malpractice and undermine the credibility of the electoral process. He expressed disappointment with the Senate’s decision, stating that it was a clear indication of a hidden agenda to manipulate the electoral process.

Amb. Oguntoyinbo emphasized that Nigerians are not comfortable with the rejection of electronic transmission of results, and called on the Senate President to revisit the amendment. “Nigerians are not comfortable to hear that there is no electronic transmission of results in the Electoral Act or that it is optional, you can use it, or you cannot use it. No. The Electronic Transmission of Results should be made compulsory for INEC,” he stressed.
The PDP chieftain further stated that the alleged decision of the Senate is sending a wrong signal and is moving Nigeria completely back into the stone ages. “Please, we don’t want ambiguity. Election results must be electronically transmitted from the polling units across the country. We should not return to the era of ballot box snatching,” he added.
Amb. Oguntoyinbo urged lawmakers to help the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deliver a free, fair, credible, and well-accepted result. He emphasized that the Senate must ensure that those who govern the country are people duly elected by the people, and the only way this can be done is to tidy up the Electoral Act and avoid ambiguity in its draft.
The PDP chieftain’s statement has sparked widespread concern among Nigerians who are eager to see a transparent and credible electoral process in the country. The rejection of electronic transmission of results has raised fears of electoral malpractice and manipulation, and it remains to be seen how the Senate will respond to the growing outcry.
As the country gears up for the 2027 general elections, stakeholders are calling on the Senate to reconsider its decision and prioritize the integrity of the electoral process. The use of electronic transmission of results is seen as a crucial step in ensuring the credibility and transparency of the electoral process, and its removal would undermine the entire exercise.
Amb. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo’s warning has added a new dimension to the debate, and it is expected that the issue will be hotly contested in the coming days.
